About Mewstar Island
Whoo. Where do I start? x3
Mewstar Island proper (there were numerous websites I made that never saw the light of day) first opened around early September or so in 2003. I honestly don't remember much about the early days, actually. I was hosted on Freewebs, and had this crazy-looking colour scheme - green on black, and we're talking #00ff00 lime green and #000000 pitch black, here. Yeah, nuts, I know.
It didn't stay like that for long. I had a layout change about once a month (no, I don't know how I managed it, either.) There were ups and downs; the Kyogre layout was a relative success considering my ineptitude, but the Rayquaza layout was a complete failure however you looked at it. And changing layouts was all I really did. Content? What content? Man, aren't you glad that things have changed so much? Yeah, I bet you are. :3 Nosiree, no slacking here. *Shot.*
*Cough.* Well, yes, anyway.
In mid-2004, I had an idea. MIST - originally the Mewstar Island Safari Tournament, later the Mewstar Island Island Summer Tournament, but, in actuality, more like the Mewstar Island Sometime Tournament. Etymological technicalities aside, MIST is an annual event of skill and luck, consisting of games and contests which may be entered in an attempt to win points. When MIST ends, the three people with the most points are the winners and get free advertising and spiffy trophies. Each year has had different games, but the premise remains unchanged. And I am as lazy as ever. :)
That was about the most interesting thing to happen until 2006, when THE REVOLUTION BEGA- when I decided I was going to revamp the whole site. I made a neat, simple, cross-browser light blue layout, scrapped some of the pages I had, and rewrote most of the others. Which was great, but something still wasn't right.
See, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with the site, exactly. From the beginning, I'd had a vague and hopeless vision of making it into a huge, popular, universally-liked site that topped all the topsites and could stand with the best of 'em. But what could I do? There were plenty of informational sites out there already, most of them pretty generic and redundant. I couldn't do that. Competitive battling? That was completely covered, too, and I couldn't battle to save my life anyway. What could I do? What could I put on a page that no other site could boast if they tried?
I decided that I should focus on the unique things about my site - MIST, my artwork, my writing, my opinions, and whatever else I could think of. The subdued, boring layout went in favour of a more colourful island-themed look. I also decided to start up a webcomic based on the site's mascots and setting - two aspects of the site that, although they were in the back of my mind all along, never really made it to the pages of the site. But a comic could really and finally bring them to life.
And that pretty much brings you up to where we are now. :)
About Cryssie
Me? I run this site. I go by the name of Crystylla. Cryssie, Crys... Take your pick of nickname. There are a lot of things I could say about myself, but I'm not going to, because I'd be here all day. Let's stick to the basics, shall we?
I'm Cryssie. I like video games, Nintendo, the internet, writing, drawing, and programming. I'm into melodic metal (check out Sonata Arctica! =D) and video game music. I play World of Warcraft (it has eaten my brains), and I believe in aliens but not a lot else.
*Looks up.* Yeah, that'll do.
If you need to contact me - to report a mistake, submit a patch for the Patchworks, suggest something, that kinda thing - here's my e-mail address:
Mewstar Island's content © me, Crystylla, unless otherwise stated or blindingly obvious.
